We are developing a Town Investment Plan for Leyburn as part of a regeneration programme across 32 towns in the county. The plans will help guide future funding bids by ensuring funding is targeted to local priorities.
This work is supported by David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and receives funding from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Leyburn can be dated to before the Doomsday Book. In the 1800s it transformed from an agricultural village into a small town and became an ecclesiastical parish in 1956.
Leyburn is still a centre for agriculture and tourism. The town centre has a range of independent shops, as well as a number of pubs, cafes and restaurants. The town has a weekly market and its historic Town Hall, built in 1856, houses several shops and provides a focal point for the town.
The key themes expected to feature in the Town Investment Plan include:
- improving the vitality and appeal of the town centre
- transport and parking
- access to services
Have your say
To make sure each investment plan reflects local priorities we are inviting residents, business owners and visitors to share their views on their local town and how they think it could be improved.
