Improvements to Harrogate council housing

Unlike the day to day repairs you can report to us, the work we do to modernise and improve your homes follows a structured plan.

We class major improvements as work which includes:

  • a new kitchen layout with new units
  • a new bathroom suite
  • a replacement heating system
  • a new boiler
  • new external doors and/or windows
  • new wiring to the whole house
  • a new roof
  • new rendering of external walls or
  • full repointing of brickwork or stone walls

If your home is due to have major improvements carried out, we'll contact you to explain what we’re planning to do and to make sure you’re happy for the work to go ahead.

The next step will be for one of our surveyors to visit your home to discuss the work with you, offering you choices where they are available, such as worktop and kitchen unit colours.

We typically improve 400 to 600 homes a year, so please bear with us if there's a long delay between your letter and a surveyor contacting you.
