Whitby Maritime Training Hub

The Whitby Maritime Training Hub aims to breathe new life into Whitby’s maritime industry, helping to diversify the economy and provide opportunities in the maritime and marine industries for our local people.

This £10 million project will be situated on Endeavour Wharf, a site of maritime activity since the 1800s, from fishing to boat building and today remains an operational wharf as well as providing car parking facilities.

This project addresses a need to develop a better supply of technical abilities to meet the demand in both developing new skills and recertification. Additionally, the Hub will also provide accommodation for maritime businesses and service providers to support economy growth and resilience within the local community.

The project gained planning approval in August 2024 and construction began on site in April 2025.

As well as constructing the building, developers Willmott Dixon have supported a range of community initiatives such as:

  • created five jobs for local people

  • provided apprenticeships and on-site work placements

  • ran learning experiences for local schools and colleges to help young people understand careers in the sector

  • supported local organisations including Whitby Lobster Hatchery, Whitby Food Bank, Whitby Wardrobe and the Happy Days Centre with over 100 volunteering hours

  • donated to local causes including Personal Protective Equipment for Whitby Fishing School and the Whitby defibrillator project

  • invested in local biodiversity and sustainability initiatives
