Planning your visit to Knaresborough Castle and Museum

Useful information to help you plan your trip to Knaresborough Castle and Museum.

Visitor information

Entry to the castle allows visitors to see the remains of the King's tower and includes entry into the Courthouse Museum.

Please purchase your admission ticket at the Courthouse Museum.

Summer opening times (April - October) - Knaresborough Castle and museum, including the keep, is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30am until 5pm.

Winter opening times (November - March) - Knaresborough Castle and museum, including the keep, is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am until 3.30pm.

The castle grounds are open all year round, 24 hours a day. The museum is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Keep is currently closed.

Facilities

Toilets

Toilets are located at the entrance to the castle site.

Disabled toilets are located at the entrance to the castle site.

Shop

There is a small shop selling gifts, souvenirs, postcards and books.

Outdoor sports are available from March to October. Equipment is available to hire from the Museum.

Picnics

You are welcome to picnic everywhere in the grounds except the bowling and putting greens.

Access

The castle grounds are accessible for wheelchairs but there is limited access to the historic buildings. The main entrance is accessible and pathways run around the yard.

Routes to waterside from Knaresborough Castle are steeply sloping, stepped footpaths.

The Courthouse Museum has a hearing induction loop.
