Recent Yorkshire in Bloom award successes include success for some of our own sites plus those looked after by voluntary groups.
As well as entering own sites we worked with local groups and stakeholders to support entries from across North Yorkshire when judging took place in July 2025.
Yorkshire in Bloom is the regional body representing the Britain in Bloom campaign that is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society. Yorkshire in Bloom organises the annual competition to encourage communities of all sizes to make a positive and lasting improvement to their local environment. It's not just about planting flowers and hanging baskets, it also encourages and develops community spirit and civic pride whilst promoting responsibility for planting, cleanliness and maintenance. This can boost the local economy through increased tourism, stimulates voluntary work and cooperation between community groups, and helps to address issues such as sustainability, recycling, minimising waste and energy conservation.
The judging criteria is made up of 3 main priorities:
Horticultural Achievement (40%)
- Plant selection
- Plant quality
- Maintenance of planted areas
- Overall impression
Environmental Responsibility (30%)
- Natural environment
- Hard surfaces and open grass areas
- Local identity
Community Participation (30%)
- Communication and awareness
- Funding and support
- Year round activity and on-going planning
