Communities are being asked to shape a ten-year plan to revitalise Scarborough and Whitby harbours and Filey Coble Landing.
We are preparing a strategy which will promote safe, sustainable and economically viable harbours.
It aims to celebrate their rich maritime heritage and embrace innovation and economic growth through collaboration and investment.
The strategy will consider new developments including the £10 million Whitby Maritime Hub which is due to open in April.
The aim is to breathe new life into the town’s maritime industry, helping to diversify the economy and provide opportunities in the maritime and marine industries for local people.
Our executive member for harbours, Councillor Mark Crane, said: “This strategy provides a clear roadmap to secure the long-term future of our harbours through investment, innovation, and collaboration.
“The vision will ensure that they remain cherished destinations and engaging spaces for residents, visitors and businesses.
“We want to preserve their rich maritime heritage, while promoting the fishing, leisure, tourism and renewable sectors.
“I would encourage people to take part in our consultation, with your views helping to shape our ten-year plan.
“We are taking the draft plans to committees, sharing with ward members, town councils, and harbour user groups to gather a breadth of expertise.”
A public consultation will run until 22 March. Share your views.
The strategy will be reported to our executive in April.
