A new date has been set for councillors to consider a planning application which seeks permission to construct a temporary wellsite to assess the potential for natural gas near Scarborough.
Our strategic planning committee was due to consider a planning application from Europa Oil and Gas in January this year, with the applicant proposing to install a 38-metre drilling rig to extract gas for testing at a site close to Burniston.
The meeting was postponed following a request for the application to be considered for call-in by the Government.
However, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has since notified us that the Secretary of State has decided it should be determined by the local planning authority.
Councillors sitting on the strategic planning committee will consider the application and its proposals when they meet at 1pm on Friday 24 April at Scarborough Town Hall.
Our executive member for corporate services, Cllr Heather Phillips, whose responsibilities include planning committees, said: “We know that this is a planning application that has attracted significant public interest, with more than 1,500 representations made about the proposals.
“As is the case with all planning applications, members of the committee will carefully consider all representations prior to any decision being made.”
The meeting is due to be broadcast live on the our YouTube channel
