Our housing directory showcases allocated sites within the North Yorkshire Consolidated Planning Policy Framework. The framework sets out the statutory and non-statutory planning policy documents prepared and adopted by the former district and borough councils that became North Yorkshire Council in 2023.
The sites listed in this directory are:
- allocated for housing development within the local plans adopted by the former district and borough councils
- sectioned by the former district and borough areas where the local plans were adopted
Allocated sites that are already progressing are not included in the directory.

About North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire stands as England’s largest county, encompassing approximately 3,341 square miles (8,654 square kilometres). In 2024, the Office for National Statistics estimated North Yorkshire's population to be 635,270.
Notably, around 40% of the county’s land is embraced by two of the UK's treasured national parks, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. In addition, three designated National Landscapes contribute to the region’s breath taking landscape and ecological richness.
