The strategic flood risk assessment will help various parties consider flood risk when making planning decisions about the design and location of any development and flood risk management features and structures.

This document features updates following comments from the Environment Agency during the preferred options consultation in 2021.

The purpose of this strategic flood risk assessment is to collate and present the most up-to-date flood risk information from all sources for use by us to inform the preparation of local plans and prudent decision-making by development management officers on a day-to-day basis.

Level 2 strategic flood risk assessment - August 2023

This document features updates following comments from the Environment Agency during the Pre-Submission Publication Local Plan consultation in 2022.

Where land outside flood zone 2 and 3 cannot appropriately accommodate all development, the NPPF’s exception test must be applied. The scope of the level 2 strategic flood risk assessment is to inform the exceptions test by considering the flood risk from all sources, as well as the detailed nature of the flood characteristics and mechanisms within a flood zone including:

• flood probability
• flood depth
• flood velocity
• rate of onset of flooding and
• duration of flood
