We are reviewing how we arrange and purchase adult residential and nursing care. We want to make sure that people can continue to access high-quality support that meets their needs, both now and in the future. This review covers all types of adults’ care homes, including those supporting older people and people with a learning disability, mental health needs, physical disabilities or other care and support needs.
We know that people are living longer, often with more complex health and care needs. Care home providers are also facing challenges, including workforce shortages, rising costs and increasing demand for care. We want to make sure that care home services remain high quality, financially sustainable and able to respond to people's changing needs.
As part of this review, we are considering changes to the way care homes in North Yorkshire are commissioned and funded, and we are seeking the views of residents, families, carers, care providers and the wider public before any decisions are made.
We are proposing to replace the current system with a new Care Home Framework. This would be a clearer way for us to work with care homes. It would set out which care homes can provide care for people we support, the standards those homes must meet, how people are helped to find a suitable care home, and the weekly fees North Yorkshire Council would pay for different levels of care and support.
You can find out more about the proposed Proposed Care Home Framework.
We would like to hear your views on the proposed framework. Your feedback will help us understand the impact of the proposed changes on people who use services and will help shape future care home arrangements across North Yorkshire.
