Proposed changes to the tenancy policy

Rent collection changes

Currently, depending on your tenancy agreement, rent is collected over 48, 50, or 52 weeks of the year.

From Wednesday 3 April 2026, we are proposing to collect rent over 52 weeks for all tenants, except legacy Selby flexible tenants whose rent will be collected over 48 weeks until the expiration of their fixed term tenancies unless determined earlier.

This means there will no longer be any “rent-free” weeks. The amount collected over the year will remain the same.

The overall rent you pay will not change.

An example of this change is, if your yearly rent is £5,200:

  • over 48 weeks: £108.33 per week (with 4 rent-free weeks)
  • over 52 weeks: £100.00 per week (with no rent-free weeks)

Yearly the total stays the same – £5,200.
