Household waste and recycling collections
There will be no changes to collections on the bank holiday, Monday 31 August. Please continue to put your rubbish or recycling out as normal, unless otherwise advised.

Commercial waste and recycling collections
There are no changes to commercial waste collections.
Household waste recycling centres
Our household waste recycling centres will be open over the summer bank holiday.
They are open every day except Wednesdays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Opening hours from April to September are 8:30am to 5pm. Please allow enough time to unload your waste before the site closes.

Customer services
Our customer service hubs are closed to all routine queries during the summer bank holiday on Monday 31 August.
Our customer service phone line will also be closed to all routine queries during this time. However, we will be open for services that require an emergency response. These services include:
- social care
- housing repairs and homelessness
- registrars
- Trading Standards
- highways
If you need help with an emergency during the bank holiday, call 0300 131 2 131 and select the correct option for the service you need.
Regular service will resume and customer access centres will re-open at 9am on Tuesday 1 September.
We will not be monitoring or responding to messages on social media during this time.
While we are closed, many of our services are available online on our website.
Library opening hours
Library opening hours vary across the county, however most of the libraries will be closed on Monday 31 August. Find out more about your local library, including opening times.
Although the buildings may be closed, you can still use North Yorkshire’s free digital library. There are thousands of free eBooks and eAudio books, as well as eNewspapers, eMagazines and eComics available to borrow, and you can consult a wide range of free reference resources, day and night.
You can also find all your digital resources in one place on the North Yorkshire library app, which can be downloaded to mobile devices from the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android devices. Search for ‘North Yorkshire Libraries’.
Registration offices
All registration offices are closed for appointments on Monday 31 August. They will re-open at their normal opening hours from Tuesday 1 September.
You can still book an appointment to register a birth, register a death, give notice of wedding or civil partnership and buy copy certificates online while we are closed.
Markets
Markets operated by us in Thirsk, Pickering and Scarborough will be open as normal on Monday 31 August.

Please note that other markets on our website are independently run by other parties and their opening times may vary over the bank holiday weekend.
Leisure
There are some minor changes to our leisure services due to the summer bank holiday on Monday 31 August.

Culture
- Skipton Town Hall will be open on bank holiday Monday on 31 August from 9:30am to 4:30pm
- Mercer Art Gallery, Royal Pump Room Museum, Knaresborough Castle and Courthouse Museum, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum will be closed on bank holiday Monday on 31 August
- The Woodend Gallery, including the public café, gallery and reception, will be closed on bank holiday Monday on 31 August
- North Yorkshire Archives will be closed on bank holiday Monday on 31 August
