Seaside venue set for record breaking season with 28 gigs

Since its reopening back in 2010, the Scarborough Open Air Theatre has seen performances from some of the biggest names in music.

The venue in the North Yorkshire resort has played host to a host of stars including Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Noel Gallagher, Elton John and Bryan Adams.

With its 8,500-capacity lakeside setting, the Open Air Theatre, which is run by ourselves, is the UK’s largest open-air concert venue.

And this summer will see the largest number of gigs staged in a season, with 28 performances lined up including shows from Tom Jones, Scissor Sisters, Madness and Paul Weller.

To celebrate the range of acts who will be performing, we’re giving you the chance to win a pair of tickets to see either global singing sensation Anastacia or indie rockers The Kooks.

Anastacia is bringing her Not That Kind tour to the Yorkshire coast for a headline date.

The American singer, whose catalogue includes hits such as I’m Outta Love, Paid My Dues and Left Outside Alone, will perform on Sunday 21 June.

She will be joined on the night by special guest Heather Small, the lead vocalist with M People.

The Kooks will celebrate two decades of hits for their performance in Scarborough as part of a run of special shows marking the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Inside In/Inside Out.

The band will play at the Open Air Theatre on Thursday 18 June.

More than one million tickets have now been sold for shows at the North Yorkshire Council-owned venue since it was refurbished and re-opened to the public in 2010.

The venue’s promoters, Cuffe and Taylor, have revealed 150,000 tickets have already been sold for this summer’s season - beating the previous record by 35,000 tickets.

Last summer’s run of 18 shows - with headliners including Will Smith, Gary Barlow and The Smashing Pumpkins - boosted the local economy by £8.8 million.
