Changes to Active North Yorkshire this summer

This summer, we are introducing a number of changes across Active North Yorkshire to create a simpler, clearer and more consistent experience across all sites. These include simplifying our membership options, moving to a new, single booking system and updating the names of our swim sessions and group exercise classes so they are easier to understand when booking.

We have countless exercise classes designed to suit a variety of ages, abilities, and conditions. Ranging from low to high-impact workouts, including classes that benefit your mental health, we have everything to ensure you can find something that suits you and your journey to leading a happier and healthier lifestyle.

How far in advance you can book an exercise class depends on your membership:

  • 10 days in advance with a +Membership
  • 8 days in advance for all members
  • 7 days in advance for pay as you go customers

Exercise classes at Knaresborough Leisure and Wellbeing Hub

Exercise class Description
Adult ballet Learn the foundations of movement and basic positions, steps and vocabulary focusing on proper posture and body alignment.
Ashtanga yoga A vigorous, athletic form of yoga that follows a set sequence of poses performed in a flowing style (vinyasa), synchronised with breath and gaze.
AquaFit AquaFit is a water based, high energy exercise class. Designed to build strength, improve cardiovascular health and increase flexibility. AquaFit offers a low impact, high reward workout suitable for all fitness levels. This is led by a qualified instructor.
Beginners lifting Beginners lifting is an introductory strength‑training class designed to teach the fundamentals of lifting safely and confidently. Participants learn key movement patterns such as the squat, hinge, push, pull and lunge using light dumbbells, kettlebells and bodyweight.
Beginner Pilates An accessible, low‑impact class that introduces the core principles of Pilates through simple, controlled movements designed to build strength, stability and body awareness. It is the ideal starting point for anyone new to Pilates or returning after a break.
Bootcamp A challenging full-body workout combining cardio and strength exercises to improve fitness, endurance and overall conditioning in a motivating team environment.
Bump boost Bump boost is a pregnancy wellbeing class in the water where a tailored programme is created to meet your pregnancy needs and your fitness levels. This is supported by members of our team, but mainly completed by a personalised programme through an iPad. Find out more on our good boost page.
Can thrive An exercise and rehabilitation class for those living with, or recovering from, cancer. Particularly those who have completed the Harrogate NHS Active Against Cancer programme.
Circuits Circuits is a full-body workout using a variety of timed exercises to improve fitness, strength and endurance in a fun, fast-paced environment.
Clubbercise High-energy dance fitness class using nightclub-style music. The workout combines cardio and toning exercises, creating a party atmosphere while improving fitness, coordination and stamina.
Core Strengthen your abs, improve stability and tone your entire midsection. Expect controlled movements, targeted core exercises and functional conditioning to support better posture and everyday strength.
Fit for function Fit for function is a full‑body training class designed to improve everyday strength, mobility, balance and fitness. Using functional movements and a mix of equipment, it helps you move better, feel stronger and perform daily tasks with ease.
Fitball Fitball is a core and conditioning workout using a stability ball to improve balance, strength, posture and overall core stability.
Good boost Good boost is a water-based exercise session for those with musculoskeletal conditions, offering a gentle yet effective way to improve mobility, strength and overall wellbeing. This is supported by members of our team, but mainly completed by a personalised programme through an iPad. Find out more on our good boost page.
Group cycle Group cycle is a studio‑based fitness class where participants ride stationary bikes together, following an instructor who guides the pace, resistance and intensity.
Ladies lifting Ladies Lifting is a supportive, strength‑training class designed specifically for women who want to build confidence and competence with free weights.
Legs, bums and tums Legs, bums and tums is a targeted toning workout focusing on the lower body and core to improve strength, shape and endurance.
Les Mills body attack A high-energy, sports-inspired cardio workout designed to improve speed, endurance and strength through movements like running, lunging and jumping.
Les Mills body balance Low-impact yoga-based fusion class, incorporating Pilates and tai chi to improve flexibility, core strength and mental wellbeing.
Les Mills body combat A high-energy, martial arts-inspired workout that gets your heart racing and your whole body energized. Kick, punch, sweat and strengthen. No contact, just pure power. Body combat improves fitness, agility and speed, releases stress and leaves you feeling invincible.
Les Mills body pump A popular barbell-based group fitness class designed to sculpt, tone and strengthen the entire body using light weights with high repetitions.
Les Mills body pump heavy Tempo based weightlifting workout designed for those seeking to build strength and muscle while enjoying a fun and energizing environment.
Les Mills core  A 30 or 45-minute, scientifically-backed workout designed to strengthen and sculpt the core, glutes and back.
Les Mills Pilates Focusing on core intensity, mobility and breathwork set to modern, melodic music. It is designed for all fitness levels to build strength, posture and flexibility using slow, controlled movements, often done barefoot.
Les Mills RPM Indoor cycling program where we ride to the rhythm of motivating music while controlling your own resistance and speed. The workout simulates outdoor cycling experiences, including flat rides, hill climbs, sprints and time trials, providing a full cardio and strength challenge.
Les Mills shapes Pilates, barre and power yoga to sculpt, strengthen and improve alignment. It features small, controlled, repetitive movements designed to create a burn throughout the body,
Les Mills sprint 30-minute, high-intensity interval training indoor cycling workout designed for fast results with low impact on joints
Les Mills strength development A science-backed, 45-minute progressive lifting program designed to build muscle, enhance lifting technique and increase strength.
Les Mills the trip 40-minute immersive, high-intensity interval cycling workout that combines multi-peak training with cinema-scale digital worlds.
Les Mills thrive Low-impact session that helps you feel fit, strong and in control, whatever your fitness level. Move at your own pace, improve lower-body and core strength, flexibility and balance.
Lifting Lifting class is a coached, strength‑training session focused on teaching safe, effective lifting technique using free weights such as dumbbells, barbells and kettlebells.
Mat Pilates Low‑impact, full‑body workout that focuses on core strength, posture, mobility and controlled movement, all performed on a mat without machines.
Meditation Guided practice focused on breathing, mindfulness and relaxation to reduce stress, improve mental clarity and support overall wellbeing.
Menofit A menopause‑specific programme using physical activity and education to support strength, energy, mood and overall wellbeing.
Parent and teen Les Mills the trip A shared fitness experience where parents and teenagers take part in Les Mills group workouts together. Sessions are designed to be fun, motivating and accessible.
Pedal for Parkinsons A specialised indoor cycling session designed to help people with Parkinson’s disease improve mobility, strength and overall wellbeing
Power yoga Strong, fast‑paced, fitness‑focused style of yoga designed to build strength, stamina and flexibility through dynamic, flowing sequences.
Rig fit A functional strength and conditioning class that uses the gym rig and surrounding functional‑training equipment to develop full‑body strength, power, mobility and conditioning.
Step Fun cardio workout using a raised platform to improve fitness, coordination and endurance through easy-to-follow routines.
Strength and conditioning A full-body workout combining resistance and functional exercises to build strength, improve fitness and enhance overall performance.
Strength and stretch A low to moderate intensity exercise class designed to increase both your strength and flexibility using a variety of exercises.
Strictly style Musical theatre and modern dance class. A fun, welcoming class suitable for all levels to learn a variety of dance styles.
Theatre craft and modern jazz General introduction to presentation skills in dance. Including all genres and a variation of styles.
Total body conditioning Combining cardiovascular exercises, strength training and body‑weight movements to boost fitness, burn calories and tone all major muscle groups.
Total gym reformer Pilates Full-body, low-impact workout performed on our specialised TotalGym Encompass machine using cables and a moving carriage to build strength, mobility and control.
Vinyasa yoga A dynamic, flowing style of yoga where each movement is linked to the breath, creating a continuous, rhythmic sequence of poses.
Yin yoga Slow, meditative style of yoga where poses are held for long periods (typically 1 to 5 minutes or more) to target the body’s deep connective tissues rather than the muscles. It is calming, introspective and designed to improve flexibility, joint health and mental stillness.
Yoga Mind‑body practice that combines physical postures, breathwork and mindfulness to build strength, flexibility, balance and inner calm.
Zumba Zumba is a high‑energy dance‑fitness class that mixes Latin and international music with easy to follow choreography to create a fun, cardio‑boosting workout.
