Swimming and diving lessons terms and conditions

Swimming and diving lessons run continuously for 50 weeks a year with an annual two-week break over Christmas.

Lessons follow the Swim England learn to swim and dive pathway and all our swimming and diving teachers are Swim England/Swimming Teacher Association qualified.

What to do

To ensure the smooth running of lessons we ask the following:

  • please ensure your child's clothes are stored in the lockers provided, please do not leave them in the cubicles
  • please encourage your child to wear their swimming hat
  • please ensure your child is showered and on the poolside in time for the start of their lesson (allow time to go to the toilet and blow noses before going onto the poolside)
  • to maintain a clean and healthy environment, no outdoor footwear is allowed on the poolside
  • we ask parents and carers to view their child's lessons from the viewing area only
  • parents and carers must not leave the facility during lessons if their child is under eight
  • children under eight must be accompanied in the changing rooms and collected from the poolside at the end of their lesson
  • please respect the teacher's decision regarding your child's progress through the programme
  • ensure all contact details and any relevant medical information are up to date and inform reception of any changes as soon as possible
  • in the event of an emergency evacuation, our staff will direct everyone to safety. Teachers will take responsibility for the swimmers in their class. This may mean that you are evacuated and held at a different emergency exit to your child. We will escort the children back to you as soon as it is safe
  • to keep everyone safe, you are not allowed to take photos or videos on the poolside, in viewing areas or in the changing rooms
  • children must not come to lessons if they have been sick with vomiting or diarrhoea at any time in the last 48 hours
  • please let us know about any medical conditions that could affect your child during lessons so we can complete a proper risk assessment

Lesson delivery and programme management

  • we may need to change lesson times, teachers or class sizes from time to time for operational or safety reasons
  • children are assessed regularly and may move levels at any point. We will always offer your child a place in the programme, but we cannot promise a specific day or time
  • if a lesson is missed, we can’t offer refunds or make‑up sessions unless it falls under our sickness policy

Direct debit payments

  • you will need to complete and sign a direct debit mandate for each child
  • our fees cover 48 weeks of payment for 50 weeks of lessons, taking into account our planned closures. This means we can accommodate up to two cancelled lessons a year without issuing a refund
  • lesson fees are paid on an annual basis split into 12 monthly direct debit payments
  • no alterations will be made to monthly payments for any lesson cancellations as this has been factored into the monthly fee
  • we will email customers that pay by direct debit to give at least 10 days’ notice if there is to be a change in the monthly debit amount
  • paying by direct debit allows your child access to general swim sessions with a 50% discount on admission price at any of our pools
  • if a direct debit payment doesn’t go through, we may try to collect it again or we may have to pause your child’s lessons until the payment is made
  • we review our prices every year and any changes will be communicated to you in advance

Refunds, membership cancellations and lesson changes

  • refunds for sickness absence will only be given where there has been a sickness absence of two weeks or more and a doctor's note has been provided
  • one calendar months' notice of cancellation is required
  • to cancel your membership please complete a cancellation form available from reception or contact us
  • when cancelling your lessons, any direct debit should not be cancelled until after the final payment month is debited
