We are able to offer a commercial waste service in most areas across North Yorkshire. This includes:
- general waste (which produces energy for our homes through our waste recovery partner at Allerton Waste Recovery Park)
- recycling
- food waste - we have transitional arrangements in place. You may be exempt, for example, if you are an educational establishment or a micro business
- a variety of bin sizes and collection frequencies
- kerbside sack collections
Every business has a duty of care to dispose of waste through a licensed waste carrier.
Simpler recycling
Under new government legislation, from 31 March 2025 most businesses with 10 or more employees should have:
- their food waste collected separately
- dedicated containers for recyclable waste

We offer a food waste collection service to our commercial waste customers. You can contact us to discuss your options.
Separate recycling collection service
We offer a recycling service of the following items for customers in North Yorkshire to be compliant:
- glass, such as drinks bottles and rinsed empty food jars
- metal, such as drinks cans, food tins, empty aerosols, aluminium foil, aluminium food trays and tubes
- plastic, such as rinsed empty food containers, bottles and cartons
- paper, such as old newspapers and envelopes
- cardboard, such as delivery boxes and packaging
For those businesses with less than 10 employees, you will need to collect your food waste separately from 31 March 2027. From this date, we will also be able to offer you a food waste collection service.
We aim to increase North Yorkshire recycling rates from 43 percent to 65 percent or more.

Who can use our business waste collection service?
Business waste can come from:
- shops, offices, factories, restaurants or other business premises
- mobile businesses such as beauticians, window cleaners or gardeners
- tourism businesses such as holiday lets, guest houses and hotels
- education establishments, such as schools, childcare and further education collages
- charities and non-profit organisations
