Report a missed bin collection in the Harrogate area

This service is delivered differently in each area of the county. This information relates to the former district of Harrogate. Looking for information in another area of the county? You can change the location here.

If your household rubbish, recycling or garden waste has been missed, we can arrange to collect it.

Please wait until after 4pm on the day of your scheduled collection before reporting a missed collection as crews will still be out working until this time.

You should report a missed bin by 5pm two working days after the scheduled collection day, for example collections missed on a Tuesday must be reported by 5pm on the Thursday. We cannot collect a missed bin reported after this time and you will need to wait until your next collection.

We have cameras on the vehicles that will be checked to fully investigate any reports of missed bins.

Before reporting a missed collection

Before you report a missed collection, please check that:

  • you put your bin, box or bag out on the correct day. You can check your collection day on our check your bin or recycling collection day page
  • your bin, box or bag was left out for collection before 6am on your collection day
  • a tag is not attached to your bin highlighting an issue
  • your bin, box or bag contain the right waste materials
  • your bin was not overfilled, and the lid was closed
  • there is no extra waste left next to your rubbish bin
  • access to the bin / boxes was not blocked by delivery vehicles, residents’ cars, or road works
  • your bin, box or bag was clearly visible from the road
  • you have paid for your garden waste collections and there is a sticker attached to your bin

We are unable to return for missed bins unless you have done all of the above.
