Inclusive Mainstream Toolkit

Get practical guidance, evidence-informed strategies, and tools to strengthen SEND inclusive practice across schools and settings.

The Inclusive Mainstream Toolkit provides guidance for mainstream schools to ensure that teaching and learning meets the diverse needs of all children and young people, particularly those facing barriers due to additional needs

It helps schools in North Yorkshire identify, plan for and meet the needs of all children and young people, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they receive the right support in mainstream education.

The IMT has been co-produced with children and young people, parents and carers, school and Multi-Academy Trust leaders, SENCOs and colleagues across North Yorkshire’s Education, Health and Social Care services.

It comprises:

  • the Inclusive Mainstream Toolkit guidelines and framework
  • a one-minute guide - with summaries and explainer video
  • the Inclusive Mainstream Toolkit Parent Guide

Teachers, SENCOs and education professionals can also access a specialised Self Evaluation Tool and Teacher Toolkits.

Access the Inclusive Mainstream Toolkit on the NYES website
