Support for children in school

Information about support available in schools for truancy, bullying, exclusion, languages and cultural support.

School bullying

If bullying or harassment occurs in our schools, we are committed to ensuring that our children, young people and families are supported.

Behaviour, emotional and social difficulties

Children who demonstrate behaviour, emotional and social difficulties in school can receive support in a number of ways.

Sex education and teenage pregnancy

All schools deliver sex and relationships education as part of their curriculum. Support is available for young people who are pregnant.

Truancy

Truancy is unauthorised absence from school. By law, children of compulsory school age registered at a school must attend daily.

Exclusion of pupils

Your child may be excluded from school by the headteacher for a number of reasons, and for anything from a half-day to permanently.
