If you want to check that someone is one of our official contractors please contact us.
Contractor access to your home
Our contractor will contact you to arrange an appointment to carry out work. This could be by phone call, email or letter.
The contractor will try to contact you three times. If they cannot get in touch with you, they will pass the job back to us. We will then continue to try and make contact with you, using your preferred contact method and in-line with our access procedure.
When the contractor arrives
When one of our contractors visits your home you should:
- check their identification before you let anyone into your home - our contractors will always show you their official identification
- keep children safe whilst work is being carried out
- make sure pets are secured away from the area of work
- make sure there is clear access to the repair area
- provide a smoke-free environment for any repair operative or contractor who comes into your home in line with the government's smoking regulations
- make sure you or another adult is present at all times when the contractor is in your home
Standards we expect from our contractors
When one of our contractors (or their subcontractors) visits your home they should always:
- show you their official identification
- confirm what repair they plan to do
- tell you how long the work will take and which rooms will be affected
- ask if materials and tools can be left in a particular place to avoid inconvenience or danger
- make sure there's safe access in and out of your home
- be polite
- tell you if they need to leave - and tell you why and when they'll return
- park their vehicles considerately
- make sure your essential services are reconnected at the end of the day
- leave the repaired area clean and tidy
- tell you why a repair may need another visit (and when that will happen)
- tell you how to use any new equipment installed and give you an instruction manual if available
- tell you about anything you should do or not do after work is finished, for example 'do not touch wet plaster for 2 hours'
Our contractors must never:
- play radios or smoke in your home
- work under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- try to get private (paid) work from you
Report a problem
If you have any problems with one of our contractors we want to hear about it. This could be a quality of work or a behaviour problem.
