We are a multidisciplinary occupational health team, bringing together qualified nurses, physicians, and technicians to deliver comprehensive workplace health solutions. Our combined expertise ensures proactive health management, tailored assessments, and evidence-based interventions to support employee wellbeing and organizational resilience.
We are committed to helping the council and its external partners stay well and thrive in the workplace. With a reach that spans approximately 30,000 people across the county, we work in diverse roles that all champion our core mission: promoting Good Health at Work.
Our collaborative approach means we work closely with council directorates, applying evidence-based guidance from our Health and Safety team. This partnership helps uphold the council’s reputation as a workplace where people feel safe, supported, and proud to belong.
We provide essential services to all council employees, including AskOH which is a responsive advice line for health-related work queries.
Alongside this, we partner with Health Assured, our Employee Assistance Programme, offering free and confidential counselling to help staff manage personal and professional challenges.

We are SEQOHS accredited so we have proven understanding of the occupational health needs of both our organisation and any external partners we deliver services for

What is Occupational Health?
Occupational Health is a specialist branch of medicine focussing on the health of employees in the workplace. The aim of Occupational Health is to improve physical and mental health at work collaborating with our colleagues in Public Health, Health and Safety and HR to ensure the Council remains compliant with health and safety law and employment law.
We understand that any great organisation ensures the health and wellbeing of all people is a main priority, not just because it’s a legal requirement but also because healthy, happy staff are more likely to perform at their best meaning a healthy workforce is key to delivering excellent public service and deliver positive outcomes.

About our roles
Occupational Health Technician
This role plays a vital part in delivering health surveillance and wellbeing programmes. It ensures high clinical standards, clear communication, and seamless collaboration across teams thereby supporting the health and safety of both council employees and external staff.
Occupational Health Development Pathway – Registered Nurse
This role is designed for a Registered Nurse (RN) who is actively developing their skills and knowledge in occupational health as part of a structured professional development programme. The position provides hands-on experience in workplace health management while supporting progression toward becoming a fully qualified Occupational Health Adviser (OHA).
Key Purpose
To gain practical exposure and theoretical understanding of occupational health principles, enabling safe, effective, and evidence-based practice under supervision, specialism preparing the RN for a rewarding career in workplace health and wellbeing.
Occupational Health Advisors and Senior Advisors
Our Advisors work autonomously within a supportive, nurse-led team, delivering expert clinical advice on work-related health matters. They partner closely with managers to provide case management, health assessments, and proactive wellbeing initiatives for Council staff and contracted employers.
Through high-quality occupational health support, they help individuals and teams stay healthy and productive at work. Advisors play a key role in promoting wellbeing across the organisation, working collaboratively to foster a positive, safe, and healthy workplace culture.
All services are overseen by our Clinical Manager/Senior Nurse and Health and Wellbeing Manager, ensuring excellence and consistency in care.
