Finding the library, parking and access
The library is at the south end of the High Street, at the junction of South Parade, Thirsk Road and High Street. The library is opposite Tesco. Buses stop on the High Street and the railway station is a ten minute walk away.
There is no parking at the library, but two spaces are available for disabled users at the rear of the building. Entrance to this car park is on Grammar School Lane. Access to the rear of the library is via a ramp which lone wheelchair users may find difficult. The nearest parking is at Tesco opposite, which has a two hour time limit. Further parking is available in the town centre and is clearly signposted.
The library has automatic doors and all areas are accessible to wheelchairs. A lift is available between floors.
Items available from the library
You can borrow a range of books for all ages in a variety of formats, including large print and audio. Music CDs, DVDs and foreign language titles are also available for loan, as well as micro:bits. You can request any item that is not immediately available.

Children's activity sessions are sometimes held at the library during school holidays. Please contact the library for more information.
Northallerton Library poetry group
Are you interested in reading, discussing or even writing poetry? Or maybe you know nothing about it but feel you would like to find out more? If so, come along to our poetry group at Northallerton Library. The group meets once a month on Tuesday mornings. No previous knowledge is required and writing your own poems is not compulsory. You are welcome to bring along a favourite poem to share with the group.
The free informal sessions will be taking place in Northallerton Library in the reference gallery space from 10:30am to 12noon and will take place on a Tuesday each month starting in March.
Code club
There is a code club every fortnight on Saturdays from 10am to 11am and 11am to 12 noon. The club is aimed at children aged nine to 13 who want to learn how to code, write their own computer games and simple animations. The sessions continue throughout half-term holidays and stop for the summer. Please contact the library for more information and to confirm the dates of the sessions.
'Communicate in print' software
This software enables people to create symbols for communicating. It is ideal for people and families where communication is impaired, for example by learning disabilities, autism or dementia.
Family history IT support sessions
Family history IT support sessions are held weekly. Our volunteer will offer help with the use of Find My Past and Ancestry.com. Please contact the library to check availability and to book your place.
Games Club
Every Friday 3:30pm to 4:30pm Choose from a wide variety of board games, or bring your own trading cards and battle other players! Games for younger players will take place in the junior library.
IT support sessions
Free, one-to-one support sessions are available with our IT volunteer at the library. Please contact the library for more details, to check availability and to book your place.
LEGO Club
Build any LEGO model you like with Northallerton Libraries weekly LEGO Club, every Wednesday 3:30pm to 4:30pm. No need to book, just drop in.
Library shop
We have a range of fair trade gifts, locally made ceramics and wooden items and handmade locally sourced unique jewellery among other products on sale in the library.
Memory Café
A monthly reminiscence session delivered by Dementia Forward – Health and Social Care Services. For more information contact Janice on 03300 578592.
Mini Play Box
Our Mini Playbox is free to use and will be available in the children’s area throughout the day during opening hours. The box has six drawers full of open-ended play activities which can then be recreated at home with objects you are likely to already have in the house. This open play supports early speech and language development, numeracy skills and encourages creative play.
Scribble vision (currently deliver online via Zoom)
Scribble vision is a weekly workshop in animation, computer games, sound design and special FX, for children and young people aged ten to 16. The sessions are held on Mondays from 4pm to 5.30pm. The workshops are run by a local artist. There are no sessions on bank holidays and during the summer school holiday. There is no need to book, just pop in! The cost of each workshop is £3, pay as you go, to cover the cost of materials.

Stay and Play
Join our under 5s Stay and Play session every Tuesday from 2pm to 3pm. No booking required.
Storytime
Storytime for pre-school children is held on Friday mornings from 10am to 10.30am.
All events and activities are subject to cancellations. Please contact the library before attending to avoid disappointment.
Study Group
Study with others and find your own way to revise. 4pm to 5pm every Wednesday.
