This library is managed and operated by volunteers working in partnership with North Yorkshire Council.

Library opening hours

  • Monday: 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
  • Tuesday: 10am to 6pm
  • Wednesday: 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
  • Thursday: 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
  • Friday: 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
  • Saturday: 10am to 1pm
  • Sunday: closed

Finding the library, parking and access

The library is on the corner of Dundas Street and Queen's Road. There is a bus stop nearby which is served by the town bus service (31) and the Darlington bus service (27/28).

There are no dedicated parking spaces at the library. Disc parking is available on either side of Queen's Road and parking discs are available at the library. There is a large public (pay) car park at Nuns Close, off Hurgill Road. This is approximately half a mile from the library and clearly signposted. With all car parks, please note the local information signs for any restrictions.

The library has automatic doors and all the ground floor areas are accessible to wheelchairs. There is a hearing loop available at the issuing desk and in the reference area of the library.

You can borrow a range of books for all ages in a variety of formats, including large print and audio. Music CDs, DVDs and foreign language titles are also available for loan, as well as micro:bits. You can request any item that is not immediately available.

Ancestry classes

Find out how to use Ancestry to research your family history. Please ask in branch for dates.

Coffee, cake and chat

First Wednesday of the month from 10:30am to 12pm. All welcome.

IT buddy sessions

For help with bus passes and blue badge applications. Please call to book an appointment.

Storytime

Storytimes for under 5s are held on Tuesdays at 2:15pm and Thursdays at 10:30am with activities which may include a craft activity, jigsaw, treasure hunt, games or other activities. Attendance is free.

Quiet time in branch

Tuesday from 1pm to 2pm and Thursday from 3:30pm to 4:30pm for customers with neurodivergent needs. This includes low light levels and reduced activity. Please contact the library for more information.
