Families across North Yorkshire will be able to enjoy a free live theatre show at their local library this October half-term.
The award-winning York theatre company, Next Door But One, is bringing its production of The Firework-Maker's Daughter to six libraries across the county, giving children and families the chance to experience professional theatre close to home.
Based on the popular children's story by acclaimed writer Philip Pullman, the show follows the adventures of Lila as she travels across mountains and lakes, meeting talking elephants and magical creatures and learning how to follow her dreams.
Each performance includes puppetry, Makaton and plenty of opportunities for children to join in.
The performances, which are funded by Arts Council England, will take place at:
- Selby Library, on Saturday, October 24 at 10am.
- Tadcaster Library on Saturday, October 24 at 2pm.
- Ripon Library on Thursday, October 29 at 10.30am.
- Northallerton Library on Thursday, October 29 at 2.30pm.
- Scarborough Library on Friday, October 30 at 10.30am.
- Pickering Library on Friday, October 30 at 2.30pm.
Executive member for culture, arts and housing, Cllr Simon Myers, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer families the opportunity to experience high-quality live theatre free of charge in their local library.
“By bringing performances into communities across North Yorkshire, we can help remove barriers such as travel and ticket costs, ensuring more children and families can enjoy the magic of live theatre.
“Libraries are places of discovery, creativity and connection and we hope these performances will inspire children to explore new stories, spark their imagination and create lasting memories.”
Spaces for the performances are limited and advance booking is required. Families are encouraged to contact the relevant library by phone or e-mail as soon as possible to reserve their places.
