Facilities management privacy notice

This privacy notice is designed to help you understand how and why North Yorkshire council processes your personal data. This notice should be read in conjunction with our corporate privacy notice.

Who are we?

North Yorkshire council is a ‘data controller’ as defined by Article 4(7) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). The council delivers functions such as markets, public lighting and street name plates.

What personal information do we collect?

To deliver our services, the Council will collect the following categories of personal data:

  • name
  • address
  • contact details (telephone number and email address)
  • financial information for payment of parking licences and market pitch fees

Why do we collect your personal information?

We need to collect your personal data to facilitate delivery and management of the following services:

  • public lighting - will to facilitate the repair of faults and ensure the operation of public lighting
  • street name plates - to facilitate the installation and repair of street name plates
  • markets - to enable communication with traders on market matters and facilitate the payment of pitch fees

For the remainder of the year (April to March inclusive) of the fault report and for a full two years thereafter (April to March inclusive).

Street name plates

For the remainder of the year (April to March inclusive) of the fault report and for a full two years thereafter (April to March inclusive).

Market traders

For the period that a trader is included on our mailing list of regular and casual market traders.

What is our lawful basis for processing your information?

North Yorkshire council relies on the following lawful basis to process your personal data:

  • UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e) – processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the official authority vested in the controller
