Short breaks foster care

Short breaks foster care give parents/carers looking after children with additional needs the chance to spend time focusing on their own lives and the opportunity to relax and recharge for a weekend or a few days.

Teresa and Ryan's story

Teresa Harper, a single mum from Harrogate who cares full time for her teenage son, Ryan, who has autism, featured on Look North (Yorkshire). Watch as she talks about the importance of short term foster carers in North Yorkshire.

 

Heather's story

Heather Woolley has spent the last 20 years as a primary school teacher, specialising in working with children with additional needs. She now works part-time and has just signed up to support families of children with disabilities or complex needs.

The 59-year-old has been approved to be a short breaks carer where she will take in a child for a weekend or longer to give them and their family a break. The breaks are planned in so are ideal for those with a part-time job or a busy lifestyle.
