Tenant involvement

Work with us to help shape and improve our housing services.

Would you like to make a positive impact in your community? We value your experience and we are dedicated to working with you. We want to involve and empower you in making important decisions.

Our goal is to make it easy for you to get involved. We encourage all tenants and leaseholders to share their thoughts and help shape how things are done.

We have worked with tenants to create a Tenant Involvement Strategy which you can view here.

What is tenant involvement?

Tenant involvement covers many different tasks and activities. Here in North Yorkshire, it means giving you the opportunity to look into our services, tell us what you like and what could be better, and then work with us to shape and improve them.

Why your involvement matters

We want to gain your trust and respect and we take this responsibility very seriously. We also recognise that we need to do more to meet your expectations, and we need your help to get there.

If you would like any further information please contact us.

Flexible ways to get involved

We offer various ways to get involved, depending on your circumstances or interests. Whether it’s reviewing our policies, helping edit the tenant newsletter, or becoming a mystery shopper, your views and feedback are important to us. You can choose how you want to get involved.

Our tenant panels and forum

Tenant Voice Panel

The Tenant Voice Panel is a dedicated group of tenants and leaseholders drawn from the wider Tenant Voice Forum. This panel meets quarterly, with each meeting shaped by an agenda set by tenants themselves.

Meetings include:

  • updates on service improvements
  • performance information from housing services
  • opportunities to influence key decisions
  • meetings are held at council offices, with the option to join online via Microsoft Teams, making it easy to take part wherever you are

The Tenant Voice Panel also plays an important role in linking tenant feedback to the Housing Improvement Board (officer-led) and our Elected Member Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Tenant Scrutiny Panel

The Tenant Scrutiny Panel is a group of tenants who work in partnership with us to review and improve housing services.

The panel examines how services are delivered, identifies areas for improvement and makes recommendations to ensure tenants’ voices are heard and acted upon.

Led by an elected tenant chair and committee, the panel is open to all tenants and leaseholders. It provides a platform for you to share your views, help review policies and procedures and contribute to service improvements.

By getting involved, tenants help:

  • shape better, more responsive services
  • promote transparency and accountability
  • ensure the housing service reflects the needs of its residents
