In accordance with the Street Works (Charges for Occupation of the Highway) (England) Regulations 2012 (the “Lane Rental Regulations”) and Section 74 of New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, North Yorkshire Council are looking to implement a Lane Rental Scheme.
This allows highway authorities to charge utilities and contractors for occupying the busiest roads at the busiest times, encouraging works to be better planned, completed more quickly and carried out at less disruptive times.
Following a formal consultation, approval has been granted by the Secretary of State to implement the scheme and we are now awaiting the relevant Statutory Instrument, after which the scheme can be formally introduced.
