Scarborough Station Gateway

The Station Gateway project aims to create a welcoming arrival and civic space as well as supporting the town’s climate and environmental objectives.

The Station Gateway project will create a welcoming arrival space and an improved civic area outside Scarborough railway station. The project supports the town’s climate, sustainability and environmental aims.

The Phase 1A – Public Realm project will provide a more welcoming, inclusive and accessible gateway to Scarborough. It will improve the experience for people arriving by train, on foot, by taxi or by car. The design reflects local climate, sustainability and environmental priorities.

Phase 1A – Public Realm includes:

  • an improved pedestrian plaza with new landscaping and street furniture

  • a clearer vehicle drop-off and pick-up area

  • improved disabled parking, with three bays located at the front of the station and two bays relocated to the main car park on Westborough Road, next to platform 1

  • a reconfigured taxi rank

  • additional works, including improvements to the northeast corner of the junction near Alma Parade, new paving to the crossing island on Valley Bridge Road, and improvements extending west of the station

Phase 1A – Public Realm is part of a wider plan to regenerate Scarborough. This first phase is funded through the Local Regeneration Fund and is intended to support further regeneration of the Station Gateway area by encouraging additional public and private investment.
