Tell us if your household arrangements change
If you receive a discount or Council Tax Reduction, you must tell us about any changes in your circumstances that may affect your council tax discount. You must do this within 21 days of the change.
These could include::
- your child has turned 18
- your child benefit has stopped
- you're no longer a student or apprentice
If you don't tell us about a change you must pay back the discount or exemption. You might also get a penalty charge added to your account.

You should contact us if there are any other changes to your household circumstances.
These could include:
- a change in who is responsible for council tax at a property
- buying or rent a property but haven’t moved in yet
- selling a property that you don’t live in
- inheriting a property
- someone named on the Council Tax bill has moved out
- someone in the household has moved into a care home or hospital
