Outdoor learning service

Find out about our Educational Visits Advisory Service, as well as the outdoor learning and training courses at East Barnby and Bewerley Park for children and young people, families, adults and business groups.

We provide challenge, adventure and educational activities for a wide range of groups. Our Outdoor Learning Service can offer:

  • courses for primary, secondary or higher education, including outdoor and adventurous activities, environmental studies, GCSE or A Level fieldwork
  • corporate training - all our centres can host corporate events, training or team building days
  • day use of the centres, allowing you to focus on a specific activity while making use of our facilities and expert teaching staff
  • an outreach service to take activities to your base, or another venue - almost all activities available at the centres are also available through the outreach service
  • weekends and school holiday sessions are available for any group, allowing a catered residential-only or full or part-taught course
  • specialist courses and nationally recognised qualifications in a wide range of outdoor activities
  • advice and approval for educational school visits
  • courses for special needs groups - we have experience in designing courses for groups with specific physical and educational needs

We can adapt courses to customers' needs - whether that's on a residential or non-residential basis, over any period of time and in a variety of locations. Our courses include full board and lodgings as well as tuition, loan of specialist equipment and transport while at the centre. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Specialised courses

We are approved by many outdoor and adventurous activities organisations to deliver skills based courses. These include the Royal Yachting Association for sailing, windsurfing and powerboating; British Canoeing; the British Orienteering Federation; the Mountain Leader Training; the British Cycling Mountain Bike Leadership; the British Caving Association; and WorkSafe First Aid training.

Educational visits

The Educational Visits Advisory Service provides guidance, advice, support, training and monitoring for educational visits, outdoor learning and adventurous activities including:

  • advice, support, training and guidance in fulfilling responsibilities for the health and safety of children and young people, employees and volunteers for all off-site educational visits and all adventurous activities
  • advice from a team of competent, qualified advisers
  • advice to enable high quality learning beyond the classroom to take place with due regard to current practice
  • appropriate policies, procedures and guidance based on current national practice
  • access to the council's Evolve planning and management system
  • a range of training courses in managing and leading educational visits
