Escrick Parish Council - CGR

We are consulting residents about the future governance of Escrick Parish Council. Due to a lack of residents willing to become parish councillors, the parish is currently holding several vacant seats. North Yorkshire Council is undertaking a community governance review to ensure that parish level governance arrangements are operating as effectively as possible.

A request has been received from Escrick Parish Council to reduce the number of councillor seats from 11 to nine as the parish is currently holding four vacancies. As of June 2025, 11 councillor seats represent 764 electors.

Escrick Parish Council meetings are often cancelled due to not enough parish councillors being present. A parish council is considered quorate when at least one-third of the total number of councillors are present, with a minimum of 3 councillors. Reducing the council size will reduce the quorum from four to three councillors.

You are invited to have your say as part of this consultation.

The closing date for the survey is 22 December 2025.
