Electrical safety standards for housing in the Hambleton area

Find out about the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020.

The Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 came into effect on 1 June 2020. They require landlords to ensure the electrical installations within their properties are safe and inspected by a qualified person at least every five years.

After an inspection, an electrical safety condition report following the 18th edition of the wiring regulation must be provided to their tenants and to their local authority if requested.

Where the report shows that remedial or further investigative work is necessary, complete this work within 28 days or any shorter period if specified as necessary in the report.

The regulations apply to all new tenancies from 1 July 2020 and existing tenancies from 1 April 2021.

You can find more information in the guide for electrical safety standards in the private rented sector section of the Government website.
