The Cinder Track

Find out information about the Cinder Track, its features and facilities.

The Cinder Track, between Scarborough and Whitby, is a popular off road route through the North York moors national park, just inland from the stunning North Yorkshire coast.

We are committed to the protection and development of the Cinder Track in our local plan policies, both as a recreational route and a sustainable commuting route.

The Scarborough to Whitby railway line saw its last train journey in 1965. The line is now a permissive right of way, allowing walkers, cyclists and horse riders to use it.

The line is one of the most scenic in the Scarborough borough and provides a valuable amenity passing through beautiful and varied areas such as Hayburn Wyke, Ravenscar and Robin Hood’s Bay.
