Grange Quarry Wood

Find out information on Grange Quarry Wood and where to find it.

Grange Quarry Wood is one mile to the north-west of Harrogate and comprises 13 acres of mixed evergreen and deciduous woodland.

The site forms part of the Nidd Gorge, where small pockets of woodland help to naturally link Harrogate to Knaresborough via Bilton.

Community involvement is via Bilton conservation group and the Rotary club of Harrogate. You can find out more about the club’s work on their website.

Footpaths

Access can be made via the public right of way off Skipton Road, to the rear of the retail park, or via the right of way off Ripon Road. There are no facilities on site but designated footpaths allow walkers to meander through the woodland at their leisure. The site drops steeply from east to west, with an overall fall of about 20m. The wood, which contains Oak Beck, is characteristically wet at its lowest points during winter. Some footpaths are steep and stout footwear is recommended.

Information boards offer guidance on site walks, and the flora and fauna that you would expect to find in the wider Nidd Gorge.
