About 1.5 miles to the north of Harrogate, Nidd Gorge is a 68-acre area of woodland, comprising mixed evergreen and deciduous trees.
The woodland does however stretch much further than the 68 acres of council-owned land and actually goes on to link Harrogate with Knaresborough.
There are developing woodland areas, which have been planted by Bilton Conservation Group with help from the council and other volunteer groups.
You can expect to find:

- holly
- English oak
- ash
- sycamore
- alder
- hawthorn
- rowan
- larch
- common beech
- field maple
Footpaths
This woodland has numerous footpaths and walks and also contains recreational football pitches.
The majority of the site is fairly level and easily accessible for walkers. However, the site drops steeply at its northerly point where the disused viaduct is located, and some footpaths are steep. Stout footwear is recommended.
The site offers magnificent and uninterrupted views to the west thanks to its elevation at its easterly point.
Access to the site in Harrogate can be made directly off Bilton Lane via the public right of way.
Information boards are located at the entrance to the site. These offer guidance on site walks, and the flora and fauna you would expect to find.
