Oakdale Wood, Harrogate

Oakdale Wood is about one mile to the north-west of Harrogate and comprises five acres of mixed evergreen and deciduous woodland species.

The main tree species are:

  • birch
  • holly
  • English oak
  • ash
  • sycamore
  • alder
  • hawthorn
  • rowan
  • larch
  • beech

The site

The site offers magnificent and uninterrupted views to the north, east and west over Oakdale golf course thanks to its elevation at its southerly point. The golf course is to the north of woodland and can be viewed across Oak Beck.

Access and footpaths

Access to the site can be made via the public right of way off Oakdale Glen as though heading to Oakdale golf club, or via the right of way between 72 and 72a Kent Road, Harrogate.

The site drops steeply from south to north, with an overall fall of about 20-40m between the southern and northern boundary.

The wood, which contains Oak Beck, is characteristically wet at its lowest points during winter.

Some footpaths are steep and stout footwear is recommended.
