Grow and learn privacy notice

This privacy notice is designed to help you understand how and why the grow and learn pilot processes your personal data. This notice should be read in conjunction with our corporate privacy notice.

Who are we?

North Yorkshire Council is a ‘data controller’ as defined by Article 4(7) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Ourselves, health professionals from Harrogate and district foundation trust and education settings are working together to help children grow and learn with a particular focus on children’s speech, language and communication needs. We will be running a pilot called “grow and learn” in the Whitby and East Ryedale areas over the next 12 months with programmes designed to help improve these important skills.

What personal information do we collect?

For every child who takes part in the pilot, we will store the WellComm and Early Talk Boost assessments and basic information such as name and contact details of you and your child. If further interventions are required, we will collect further information from you to be able to provide ongoing support.

The following special category data may be processed

  • your child’s ethnicity
  • any disabilities or special educational needs that your child has
  • information about your medical history

Why do we collect your personal information?

In order to deliver this project, we need your information. This will help us identify the most appropriate services to support you. This will help us deliver the services that are part of the pilot project, and to know how well it has worked so we can make our future services even better.

Who do we share this information with?

In order to deliver this service, we need to use your information. The pilot is delivered in conjunction with Harrogate district and foundation trust and educational settings, so they will also have access to your information.

A member of health staff or staff in an educational setting will complete the registration form and WellComm assessment, which will then be passed to us to determine appropriate support.

How long do we keep your information?

Data held Retention period
School readiness file of intervention Stored by children and young people's services within North Yorkshire Council in line with current retention guidelines. Information will be stored until child’s 25th birthday unless SEN. Stored by Harrogate district and foundation trust in line with retention guidelines.

What is our lawful basis for processing your information?

Article 6 (1) (e) – public task, in line with the Children’s Act, 2004 with working together to safeguard children, 2018.

Article 9 (2) (h) – obligation under health and social care, in line with the Children’s Act, 2004 with working together to safeguard children, 2018. Schedule 1, Part 1, (2), health and social care purposes.
