This privacy notice is designed to help you understand how and why the council process your personal data in relation to the refugee employment advice scheme. This notice should be read in conjunction with our corporate privacy notice.
Who we are?
North Yorkshire Council is a ‘Data Controller’ as defined by Article 4(7) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). The employment advice team is responsible for administering this service.

What personal information do we collect?
The council will use information collected from you during your meetings with the employment advisor. This information will be:
- your name, address, and contact information
- your previous employment history and your skills
- your personal employment preferences
- any assistance you may require (i.e translator or easy access to buildings)
Why do we collect your personal information?
North Yorkshire council would like to provide you with advice about your employment with the intention of finding you paid work within North Yorkshire.
In order for the council to do this it must be able to analyse your personal data and be able to pass this on to other organisations.
Who do we share this information with?
We will only pass on your data to other organisations for the purpose of finding you employment and we will not sell your data to third parties for marketing purposes.
We will only pass your data on to these other organisations with your consent. Your employment advisor will be able to tell you which organisations will receive your data.
In some cases, the council may need to pass your data on to other organisations without your consent if it has an overriding legal obligation to do so (i.e to prevent or detect criminal activity).
You may withdraw your consent at any time by writing to the above address. The council will immediately stop processing your data, for this purpose, and will retain your information for six months before deleting.
How long do we keep your information for?
The council will retain your data the current financial year and then for six years following the end of the provided support.

The council is relying on your explicit consent to process this information.
