Opening the door to help you make the most of your ‘24

We are almost a month into 2024, so New Year resolutions might be slipping away, but the aspirations that inspired them most likely remain very much alive – and we offer a wide range of services to help you to fulfil them.

Support to improve your health, stay fit, add to your skills, help the environment and much more are now under one umbrella, following the creation of the authority in April last year to provide all council services for the county.

This year marks the first new year for the authority, and it is a prime opportunity for you to take the opportunity to ensure that your resolutions for 2024 stay on track – with help from our dedicated officers who are available to provide support and advice with their services.

Council leader, Cllr Carl Les, said: “Offering opportunities to meet the needs of individuals and communities at a local level are at the heart of what we do.

“Bringing all this support and services together within a single council means you now need only one port of call. Please explore what is on offer to help you make the best of your 2024.”

Improve your health

Many of us are aspiring to improve our health or start healthier habits. Our adult weight management service provides 24 weeks of free support to those eligible.

There is also a free family healthy living service, Healthy Families, which offers up to nine months of online support to families. Support is also available to stop smoking.

Get involved

We are celebrating volunteers in our Team North Yorkshire campaign. As well as helping others, volunteering is a great way to learn skills and make friends.

To get involved, see the volunteer options we offer or find charities and groups at Community First Yorkshire.

Go greener

If you aim to do your bit to tackle climate change and keep our world cleaner and greener, reducing waste and reusing or recycling items can save energy and resources.

We offer a range of advice and tips - from composting to reusing furniture.

Head for the gym

Many people aim to start the new year with a fitness boost, so why not explore your local gym?

Regular exercise is linked to improved muscle strength and endurance, as well as a reduced risk of heart disease and strokes. It is also shown to improve your mood and help you to sleep better.
