We can only provide information about a claim to those landlords who are receiving direct payments of housing benefit or where a tenant has given us written permission to do so.
The housing part of Universal Credit will be paid directly to your tenant. This means your tenant will need to be able to manage their money.
Landlord online benefits portal
The landlord portal gives you secure access to your tenants’ Housing Benefit entitlement and Housing Benefit payment breakdowns.
Register for the landlord portal
If you are a landlord and you receive Housing Benefit payments from us, you will need to sign up to the landlord portal. You need to send us:
- a contact name
- your email address
- your telephone number
Send these by email to welfareandbenefits@northyorks.gov.uk.
The details you provide will be used to create your user account on the landlord portal. You can add other users later after your main account has been set up. If you have any questions call us on 0300 131 2 131. When prompted, please say 'landlord portal'.
We will no longer send any payment schedules by post or email, and you will no longer receive landlord Housing Benefit notification letters.
Advice for landlords
The Department for Work and Pensions has an information page for landlords on their website. This includes information on Universal Credit and alternative payment arrangements if your tenant is in arrears.
The Money Advice Service also provides information and advice for landlords whose tenants get Universal Credit.
