Courses for childcare providers

North Yorkshire Council offers registered childcare providers and their employees a wide variety of training opportunities.

Free training for private, voluntary and independent providers

Some training is offered to private, voluntary and independent providers in North Yorkshire, visit NYES to find out more.

Providers should take advantage of this and are encouraged to book all early years staff on as many of the training opportunities as possible.

Free SEN training with Dingley’s Promise

Professionals across the country are improving their skills and gaining confidence through the range of training courses, visit Dingley's Promise to find out more. Centred around inclusive practice and designed for anyone working in the early years, the training has helped thousands to enhance their ability to include and support children with SEND in their settings.

Funded Level 3 qualifications

Residents of North Yorkshire who meet the eligibility criteria can enrol on a fully funded Level 3 with North Yorkshire Council’s Adult Learning department. Funded through Courses For Jobs by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, this will be available until August 2026.

Eligibility criteria for both Level 3 qualification funding:

Learners must be:

  • aged over 19 (as of 31 August 2025)
  • living in North Yorkshire
  • earning under £25,000 at the time of enrolment

TQUK Level 3 diploma for the Children’s Workforce (Early year educator) Regulated Qualifications Framework

  • accredited Level 3 qualification
  • flexible online learning
  • start dates from January 2026 to July 2026
  • two professional discussions
  • two observations
  • 20 course modules including: holistic development and play, safeguarding and child protection, inclusion and SEN and wellbeing and physical care

NCFE Level 3 diploma in Playwork

  • accredited Level 3 qualification
  • flexible online learning
  • start dates from January 2026 to July 2026
  • 17 course modules including: play and play principles, safeguarding, health and safety, inclusion and SEN
