This leaflet is from North Yorkshire Council.

It tells you about our updated plan for the education of children and young people with SEND.

SEND means special educational needs and disabilities.

The plan says we need to make sure that all children and young people with SEND can learn and that they have enough support.

We want children and young people with SEND to be able to go to school near their home.

We want children and young people with SEND to be with their friends.

We want children and young people with SEND to do well with their learning and be ready for adult life.

The plan will help us do all of these important things and pay for them with the money we have.

In the plan we said we would make sure there are enough school places for all children and young people with SEND.

The plan says that some of the places will be at special schools to make sure children and young people with SEND get the right support.

In the plan we said that there would be teams all over North Yorkshire working with children and young people with SEND and their parents and carers.

The plan also says that we will think about how we use the money that we get from the Government to support children and young people with SEND.

We have updated the plan to include other ideas to make sure that children and young people with SEND have enough school places and do well.

One of the things we have said we will do in the updated plan is look at the support for very young children with SEND before they start school.

Another idea in the updated plan is to spend some of our money on making school buildings better.

The updated plan says that people at the council need to work together to make sure children and young people with SEND do well.

We will work together with people from other places too. These people are called our ‘partners’.

It will take us several years to do all of the things in the plan.

We will review the updated plan every year to check that things are getting better for children and young people with SEND.

We will ask children and young people with SEND and their parents or carers if they think the plan is working.

We will look at how well children and young people with SEND are doing at school and in other parts of their life.
