Statement of community involvement

This Statement of Community Involvement sets out how communities and citizens will be involved in the planning system.

The planning system affects everyone living and working within a community and our wider natural environment. But it is not necessarily something that people directly engage with on a regular basis. This Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) explains why and how we will involve people and organisations (stakeholders) in decisions about planning policy-making, and considering planning applications in the Ryedale area.

Equality impact assessment

An equality impact assessment (EIA) is a structured assessment for considering and communicating the likely effects of a review of a policy in terms of equalities issues, with the aim of avoiding and mitigating adverse effects and maximising the positives. The aim is to ensure that the preparation of planning policy promotes equality of opportunity through consultation and that the objectives and outcomes of policy choices do not discriminate against individuals or groups.

As the plan review progresses, this scoping component of the EIA will allow the identification of the positive or negative impacts that a policy could have on one or more of the protected characteristics.
