Research shows that consistent, high-cadence cycling can help reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's. This class is adaptable to various ability levels and stages of Parkinson's.
To maximise the benefit, it is recommended that participants take three classes a week, lasting over 30 minutes and cycling at 75rpm, or at a speed that you consider uncomfortably fast if you cannot achieve 75rpm. People who have done this for over eight weeks have shown improvement in their Parkinson's related symptoms.
You should come to the class with:
- comfortable exercise clothing, padded cycling shorts optional
- closed-toed exercise shoes with a firm sole such as tennis shoes or trainers
- water bottle
- any portable seat pads, gloves, ear plugs, a towel or other equipment you would like to bring for added comfort
- any medication you need before, during or after class
A heart-rate monitor is not required but may be helpful for you.
