From 1 April the new North Yorkshire Council will replace the eight authorities currently providing county and district services. This means services like household waste collections, gritting and libraries will all be provided by the same single authority.  This page summarises the minor changes to services due to the Easter bank holidays.

Waste and recycling collections

Standard content There are some minor changes to the scheduled waste and recycling collections due to the Easter bank holidays.

In the Craven, area green, blue and brown bin collections will take place a day earlier due to Good Friday on 7 April. These changes will apply to all household and commercial collections. There will be no collections on Friday 7 April.

If your bin is normally collected on Tuesdays, it will instead be collected on Monday 3 April.

If your bin is normally collected on Wednesdays, it will be collected on Tuesday 4 April.

If your normally collection day is Thursday, it will be collected on Wednesday 5 April.

If your usual collection day is Friday, it will be collected on Thursday 6 April.

Collections will run as usual from week commencing Monday 10 April.

There are no changes to collections due to take place on bank holidays in May (1, 8 and 29 May).

In the Hambleton area, household waste collections will take place as usual on Good Friday on 7 April. Please put your bin out as usual if this is your collection day.

Due to the bank holiday on Easter Monday (10 April), all refuse and recycling collections this week will take place one day later. There will be no collections on Monday 10 April.

If your bin is normally collected on Mondays, it will instead be collected on Tuesday 11 April.

If your bin is normally collected on Tuesdays, it will instead be collected on Wednesday 12 April.

If your bin is normally collected on Wednesdays, it will instead be collected on Thursday 13 April.

If your bin is normally collected on Thursdays, it will be collected on Friday 14 April.

If your bin is normally collected on Fridays, it will be collected on Saturday 15 April.

Customer services

Our customer service centres are closed to all routine queries on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

They will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 11 April.

We will not be monitoring or responding to messages on social media during this time.

While we are closed, many of our services are available online.

Library opening hours

Libraries will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday. You can find out more about your local library, including opening times.

Most libraries are also closed on Easter Saturday and our libraries will also be closed on the bank holidays in May (1, 8 and 29 May).

Although the buildings may be closed, you can still use North Yorkshire’s free digital library. There are thousands of free eBooks and eAudio books, as well as eNewspapers, eMagazines and eComics available to borrow, and you can consult a wide range of free reference resources, day and night. You can also find all your digital resources in one place on the North Yorkshire library app, which can be downloaded to mobile devices from the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android devices. Search for ‘North Yorkshire Libraries’.

YorBus

The YorBus service will not be running on Good Friday and Easter Monday. On Saturday 8 April the service will run as normal.

The service will not be running on bank holidays in May (1, 8 and 29 May).

County Record Office

Our record office is closed from 4.30pm on Thursday 6 April and will reopen at 9.30am on Tuesday 11 April.

The record office will also be closed on bank holidays in May (1, 8 and 29 May).

Registration offices

All registration offices are closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Otherwise, normal opening times apply. Please see you local registration office for opening hours. Priority will be given to those having to register a death.

You can still book an appointment to register a birthregister a deathgive notice of wedding or civil partnership and buy copy certificates online while we are closed.

Household waste recycling centres

Our household waste recycling centres are open as normal over Easter from 8.30am to 5pm, except for Wednesdays.
