Why recycling is going its separate ways across county

A new video adds a dash of humour to the serious business of recycling as changes in how residents in the former Ryedale area can recycle their refuse are introduced.

As part of the roll-out, residents will now have one bin for paper and card and another for other recyclable materials such as glass, cans, plastics and cartons.

This system is already in place in the Selby area and has been shown to improve the quality and amount of recycling collected, reduce processing costs and manual handling while reducing waste blowing around on windy days.

Residents can keep their old recycling boxes and use them for storage or anything else they might find useful. Anyone who doesn’t want to keep the boxes can take them to the household waste recycling centres in Malton or Thornton-le-Dale for recycling.

The changes are part of a countywide phased roll-out to give residents across North Yorkshire the same high-quality service, protect the environment and deliver better value for money. The changes will be phased in during the next two years.
